Is Southland really a ballroom?
No, it’s a 350 capacity music venue that also is perfect for private parties of all sorts but we do hope that you have a ball while you’re at Southland.
Do you accept credit cards?
Yes. We accept all major credit cards at the door for tickets and at the bar. Not all bands accept credit cards for merchandise so if you think you will want to buy a cd or shirt, then bring some cash.
Is there an ATM at Southland?
Not at this time but it seems like a good idea so maybe in the future there will be one. Don’t count on it, though. Bring cash.
I don’t have a printer to print advance tickets, can I still come to a show?
No worries. We have a list of advance ticket buyers at the front door.
Where do I park?
There is free street parking on both N. West Street and N. Harrington. There are also some free spaces in the lot behind the venue. Across the street from Southland’s front door, there is a small parking lot with a $5 fee. There is also a parking deck on W. Johnson Street, across from the Hampton Inn and within a block of the venue.
I am staying at a hotel downtown and don’t want to have to drive or take a cab. How do I get to Southland?
Raleigh has the R-LINE, an eco-friendly approach to urban transportation. This FREE circulator bus service features hybrid electric buses that will connect you to restaurants, retail, entertainment venues, museums, hotels, and parking facilities in downtown Raleigh. There is a R-Line stop directly in front of Southland. The buses run…
Mon-Wed: 7:00 AM – 11:00 PM
Thu-Sat: 7:00 AM – 2:15 AM
Sun: 1:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Do you have Handicapped Parking?
Yes, directly in front of the front door there is Handicapped Parking.
Is there easy access for someone in a wheelchair?
Yes, Southland has a ramp from the street and parking, a wide entrance and hallway, plus large Handicapped restrooms.
Will the sound be too loud for me?
We hope not but if it is, we sell ear plugs at the bar.
Are there seats?
Most of our shows are General Admission standing shows. We do have 4 built-in booths that will hold up to 6 people available on a first come basis. There may also be 6 – 10 tables with 4 seats each depending on the size of the crowd we expect. If a show says that it is a “Seated” show, we will have up to 150 chairs in rows in front of the stage. If a show say that it is a “Partially-Seated” show, then we will have 50 chairs in addition to the tables with chairs and booths but there will still be standing room for those that like to shake their booty to the music.
Is there smoking in the venue?
No. NC law prohibits smoking indoors. We do have a smoking deck with some tables and chairs if you need a nicotine fix. The night’s music is piped out to the deck so you won’t miss a thing while you take a puff.
May I bring my children?
We love to help mold the musical tastes of today’s youth. Most of our shows are all-ages and children are welcome. There is a $4 surcharge at the door for anyone under 21 and those 16 and under must be accompanied by a parent.
Is there a dress code?
You must wear clothes and shoes to Southland. Other than that, anything goes.
If a show says on the website or Etix site that it is sold-out, will you still sell me a ticket at the door?
Nope. Sold-out is sold-out. However, as the night goes on, somebody may leave. You are welcome to form a line in front of the venue so as one leaves, another can enter. You can also take a chance that someone has an extra ticket and will sell it to you outside of the venue at face value. We don’t like scalpers and would rather you spend your money in the venue or with the artist. There seems to be times that for one reason or another, someone bought a ticket for someone that didn’t come so you may get lucky.
What if I drove 5 hours to see my favorite band but when I got there, the show was sold-out. Would you feel sorry for me and let me in anyway?
Nope. As above, sold-out is sold-out. We’d probably all talk about how idiotic it was that someone drove 5 hours without having a ticket for a big show that should sell-out. No sympathy from this bunch. To assure that doesn’t happen to you and that we don’t talk about you behind your back, buy Advance tickets. That way, you are assured of getting into the show.
Are there hotels within walking distance?
Yes. There is a brand new Hampton Inn ½ block from Southland on W. Johnson Street.
What time do shows start and when will the headliner go on stage?
We strive to start our shows on time but certainly no later than 15 minutes late. Each opener generally plays for 30 – 45 minutes and then allow 15 -20 minutes for the stage to be reset and then the headliner starts.
Does Southland serve food?
Other than a vending machine with some chips, there is no food at Southland. Within walking distance, there are several very good restaurants at all prices.
What kind of drinks do you serve?
Southland has full ABC licenses and very creative bartenders. If you can think of it, they can fix it. We also have wine, soft drinks, and bottled water.
I only drink bottled water and have a large purse. Is it ok for me to bring my own water? How about if I sneak some alcoholic beverages in?
Come on. Do you really need to ask that? NO, absolutely you may not bring in your own drinks (not water, not alcohol, not even chocolate milk). Cut us a break. We need to pay our bills, you know?
Are there nightly drink specials?
Not usually. Maybe one night, we’ll mix up a batch of Ol’ Helimonster but it’s not in the works at this time.
